Ok, ok, I am not the most versed guy when it comes to football. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t like the excitement and festivities that surround the game. How much more excited can we be that not only is the Super Bowl being played in Tampa Bay this year but our own local team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing in the Super Bowl in their home stadium!! This is not only super awesome but also historic and possibly a once in a lifetime event. So that being said, I am ‘Super” excited to be able to bring the Mayne Mafia to the NFL Super Bowl Experience in Tampa the day before the big game and Alessa was overwhelmed as football is really not that big of a sport in Canada as it is in the United States. Regardless, she was super excited!!
Now, I could not believe it when I was afforded this amazingly super opportunity (ok, I will stop using super), and honestly did not know what to expect when I got there. But let me tell you Mayne Mafia, the hype was real and you could instantly feel the energy and excitement as soon stepped foot along the Tampa Riverwalk.
I used to live in Tampa, but it has been many years and things along downtown Tampa, Channelside and the Tampa Riverwalk have changed, and oh, have they changed. It is not only beautiful, with the water of the Hillsborough River glistening today in the sun, boats everywhere and flags a’flyin’ but the walkway and buildings are very welcoming. After we stopped by the Tampa Convention Center to check in and get our media credentials, we went and parked in our reserved parking space that we had gotten online the day before. This I have to tell you was great, no driving around for hours, especially when you are not familiar with the area, looking for a parking space. It was super (sorry) easy, going to BestParking.com, putting in the location you are going to and choosing a parking spot for the time frame you need it. It was under $10 as well, much cheaper than I expected it to be. We parked and then walked along the street towards the music and food aromas that were being carried in the breeze off the waterway.
From the Tampa Convention Center we could see the Pirate ship that usually at this time, would be leading the Gasparilla Parade. However, with the circumstances at the moment, it has been postponed until around April. The ship looked amazing, all decorated and flying the flags of both of the division champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs. There is also a large replica of the Lombardi trophy and the LV symbol on the ship. Tonight, the ship lit up and not only had incredible laser lights but also was shooting off fireworks which will be super exciting before the big game tomorrow! If you would like to see the amazing fireworks show, be sure and head over to my youtube channel at this link: https://youtu.be/9FSKVaARxb8 as well as seeing all the other festivities that were going on while we were there.
From food trucks lining the walkway along Riverwalk to football challenges set up at Julian B Davis Park, being able to see the Lombardi trophy (before Tom Brady threw it overboard to another boat in the parade), the Superbowl rings and giant helmets of the NFL teams, there was so much to see and do that it rather overwhelmed us. There was a sea of red for sure, fans that were so ecstatic to have their home team team in the SuperBowl alone but to have them playing right here in Tampa was incredible.
I could not believe how awesome this event was and so much love and props to the NFL, the City of Tampa and the organizers of the event who put this on in a safe, controlled and socially distanced way when this year has brought so much difficulty in moving forward with large scale events. We did were our masks and for the most part, everyone around us was very compliant and for those that were not, we just stayed very far away. Having it outdoors was a great idea and it could not have been a more beautiful backdrop along the water.
Again, a huge shout out to the NFL SuperBowl Experience for inviting us to this amazing event and we hope that the Mayne Mafia had a great time coming along with us!
