Up, Up and Away in our 'Most Magical Flight on Earth'

Today, September 27th, 2019, we had the honor of being invited by Disney to their Disney Skyliner media event. After an introduction by the imagineers and transporation VP at Walt Disney World, Conductor Skylar got everyone excited about being able to be the first to officially take off in these beautiful gondolas (yes, I am going to call them that till the end of time) at the official opening. With the chant “dreams take flight!” cheers from the crowd roared and the multi-colored cars started gliding through the skies and fireworks shot up in the air. It was truly Disney magic!

This “most magical flight on Earth” connects Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort, which opens Dec. 2019 as the 15th Disney Vacation Club property.

Some of the 300 cabins in the Disney Skyliner system are wrapped in whimsical Disney scenes – beloved characters, fan-favorite movies and attractions, and more – giving the appearance that Disney pals are riding along with Guests. Each cabin comes in one of eight vibrant colors and features curved lines. Disney Skyliner guests will discover bird’s-eye views of the colorful skyline of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, crowned by the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Approaches to Epcot are equally eye-catching, as the countries around World Showcase Lagoon come into view with the iconic Spaceship Earth in the distance.

While running into some of our great friends that were also there, we grabbed the “official” partner of the Disney Skyliner Joffrey’s coffee signature coffee drink, the Toffee Flight Latte. With salted caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, whipped cream and toffee crumbles it was delicious and just what we needed to get this day off to a great start. Disney was also super gracious in giving each media member swag bags and we received a Funko Pop type gondola, a Skyliner decorated cookie, a really cool Skyliner water bottle, some snacks and of course, our super cute media badge that was shaped like a Disney Skyliner car.

After saying hello to Lauren, who was super nice and told us about all the really awesome Disney Skyliner merch from shirts to ornaments and yes, even these amazing socks with the skyliner on them and on the bottom of each foot reads “My Way” and the other says “Or The Skyway”. They had some cute pins and a passholder pin as well and Sunday, they will be coming out with the opening day pin.

After a hydration situation stop, we had a talk with Jenn, who filled us in on the resorts on the Skyliner route and what a benefit this new form of transportation will bring to the four resort stops, Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach Resort and in December 2019, the new Riviera Resort.

Then it was time for the main event. Hopping aboard the Disney Skyliner!! Melanie was so excited to guide us to the colorful car and with her giving us wishes for a magical flight, we sat down and got ready to fly. This was an amazing experience and so glad that you were able to come along ‘through the lens of this livestreamer.’ The temperature inside the car was very comfortable and breezy. The views were spectacular and the ride was quiet and serene. The voice that guides you through each stop is calming and informative and stopping in each station we could unload and board with ease.

We also were given the opportunity to meet with the Boss himself, Mickey Mouse and the lovely Minnie Mouse and have a photo opportunity with them that was purely once in a lifetime. Being with them and watching the Disney Skyliner float through the sky made me feel like a kid again and so extremely grateful and blessed that we have these opportunities to preview these new openings and attractions.

After getting back on the skyliner and heading for Epcot, we got to chat with Clarabell and Horace as well as take a picture with them as well. Clarabell was in rare form today and really giving it up for the camera. You could tell that she was super excited for the skyliner opening and the fact that her and Horace have their own special gondola.

We then boarded again and headed to Hollywood Studios, the other stop that you can make aboard the skyliner and met up with Daisy and Donald in the station. I love this station at Hollywood Studios, all retro and shiny. We talked and posed with the couple and then we had to get back.

Heading back to Caribbean Beach Resort as our time was coming to an end, and, in true Spokesmayne fashion, I realize that I had left my phone. We did a U turn back to Hollywood Studios station on the Skyliner, me feeling totally alone without the Mayne Mafia by my side, and were informed that they sent my phone over to Caribbean Beach. Well, Disney cast members are super efficient. After retrieving the lifeline of the stream, we reflected on the morning.

The Disney Skyliner is amazing. Its views are amazing. Boarding and reboarding is easy and efficient. It is comfortable and exciting. We will absolutely be traveling on the Disney Skyliner for many year to come and if you cannot fly aboard it in person, you can always join us as we go on the Most Magical Flight on Earth.
