Something Amazing Is Happening At Epcot! The EPCOT Monorail Is Coming Back…oh, yes, and Tomorrow International Food & Wine Festival Begins..

PC: Jeff Krause

WE have all been watching for it, listening for it in the distance. Those colors sweeping by, holding our breath for that perfect.. there goes the monooooraiiiil picture. Yes, good people, the word is that EPCOT’s most missed attraction will be returning on July 18th, and frankly, I am super excited.

According to theme park journalist Scott Gustin  who shared the news via Twitter he states that the Monorail service will begin its services daily one hour before EPCOT’s park opening time and conclude one hour after EPCOT’s park closing time. Of course, we have not seen anything official yet from Disney themselves. Reportedly with this change,  direct bus service to EPCOT would no longer be available from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Contemporary Resort on July 25th, and from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort sometime in mid-August. Of course this makes sense, if the most preferred mode of transportation will be returning.

The EPCOT Monorail line has not been available to guests since March 2020 (holy cow), when Disney World closed its parks and resorts due to the pandemic. Since then, the Magic Kingdom Monorail line has been available (without stopping at the Poly however), but guests would need to find alternative transportation to EPCOT, like the Skyliner or the buses which can either be quite a wait or, as happens frequently in Florida, the Skyliner will be halted due to adverse wind or weather conditions.

This will make it much easier for guests to travel to EPCOT, especially with the Food and Wine Festival set to kick off tomorrow, July 15th!

EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival

Speaking of EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, I know that we are all excited! There is nothing like walking through EPCOT and smelling all those amazing smells coming from the festival booths. The best way to tackle this festival, and I recommend not trying to do it all in one day or even one vacation honestly) is to grab a Festival Passport book and pick out your favorite or “must have” items and getting them first. Here are some of our favorites from years past and some new ones we are looking to try. You can find them at the front of the park and many times cast members will hand you one on your way into EPCOT.

There are some new food items this year such as the pork rinds and pimento cheese (this southern boy says yes, please), cheese and pepperoni flatbread, glutein free items buffalo chicken wings and mango-habenero chicken wings with celery and ranch (yes, please to that as well), Tuna Poke with Eel Sauce, Spicy Mayonnaise, and Crispy Shrimp Chips (umm), Hot Beef Sandwich with Horseradish Cream and Pickled Vegetables and many more. There is also some great new IPA’s and beers as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on the menu, personally glad to see some local breweries that we have visited in our travels like 3 Daughters in St. Petersburg, Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company in Orlando and Big Storm Brewing Company in Clearwater.

There is also a couple of scavenger hunts you can do with yourself, friends or family while visiting the festival. Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak scavenger hunt is always a fun way to get around and find our friend hidden in places and if you pay for the map you get a cool prize at the end. Another “cheesy” way to get around the park is to take part in EPCOT’s Food and Wine Cheese Crawl or Emile’s Fromage Montage you’ll need to get the 5 menu items at the various Food & Wine Festival booths that are part of the cheese crawl. Be sure to get the stamps on your Festival Passport to indicate that you’ve gotten each of these items.

You’ll want to grab those stamps when you get your food at each of the booths. I am sure that there will be some point in the streams that we will be doing this one. Once you’ve tasted and reviewed these five items, head to Shimmering Sips for a special prize!

Also, new this year, Canada will have a food booth inside the Canada Pavilion! Apple seems to be the word here and there is a plethera of choices with that sweet smelling fruit at the core (get it..core). From the Apple Crumble Tart to a wide variety of beverages such as the new Cinnamon Apple Cider (new; non-alcoholic) and 3 Daughters Brewing Apple Pecan Brown Ale, St. Petersburg, FL (new) the all sound amazing.

Needless to say, there is WAY to much to put in one blog, so be sure to keep checking back for more updates and follow along on stream, Facebook and Instagram at Spokesmayne. Who knows, we may be going live sooner than you think!
