Grand Californian Vacation Club Villas Announces ReOpening Date of May 2, 2021.
As more news comes forth almost daily now of areas of Disneyland in Anaheim reopening, it is a very positive sign that Disneyland is moving in a forward way to hopefully reopening fully in the near future. Along with new Passholder Program, things will change into a ‘new normal.’
As of this article, parts of Disneyland, especially the resorts, have been closed for 14 months, something that was totally unprecedented and never imagined.
Terri Schultz, Senior VP of Disney Vacation Club has provided members with an update regarding the Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, confirming plans to reopen the resort on May 2, 2021. This target date comes almost 5 months after a December 6, 2020 reopening was overrulled by more restrictive lockdown measures by the Governor of California. He does mention, however, that many resort amenities including dining and activities may be unavailable at reopening. Only the DVC villas will reopen during the initial stage of the phased reopening. The rest of Disney’s Grand Californian as well as the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel will remain closed indefinitely.
This news comes just days after Anaheim City Council voiced support for a plan that would allow Disney’s theme parks to reopen sooner than state COVID-19 guidelines would normally allow. Current guidance would allow theme parks to reopen at 25% capacity only when areas see less than one new COVID case per 100,000 people per day, along with a positivity rate of less than 2%.
Complete statement from DVC is as follows:

Select dining and shopping venues in Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure are currently open to guests and more areas of dining may be opening there fairly soon as well.
Disney has proven that they can open their theme parks safely and under firm safety protocols and guidelines. It is my opinion that they will stay firm to those guidelines as areas open throughout the park’s perimeter and eventually into the parks themselves.
NEW PASSHOLDER PROGRAM FOR DISNEYLAND PARKS
Disneyland recently announced that they are doing away with their Annual Passholder program and implementing something new.
Until new membership offerings are announced, a new title was put into place for Annual Passholders who held active Passports as of March 14, 2020 are now Disneyland Resort Legacy Passholders.
Legacy Passholders can still enjoy some of those ever-so-magical extras that celebrate you. Like when you get the chance to scoop up some special merchandise or enjoy some food and beverage offerings. Or those special surprise and delight moments. And of course, there are those fantastic Passport discounts that have been extended for a limited time—from food and beverage offerings to shopping at select locations all around Downtown Disney District and Buena Vista Street.
STAR WARS TRADING POST OPENS
The new Star Wars Trading Post has opened in its new location in the Downtown Disney District as of February 19, 2021 and becomes the go-to place for all things Star Wars. The design is inspired by a hidden jungle Resistance base and the merchandise offers something for every traveler on their galactic journey. The opening assortment will feature merchandise straight from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge along with classic Star Wars and The Mandalorian, with apparel, accessories, souvenirs, creatures, droids and more. Having reimagined the old Rainforest Cafe, which sat for quite a while, this new and fresh look is sort of a sign of new beginnings and reopenings as Disneyland parks look to the future.
