Beauty All Around…Checking out the Cultural Side of Downtown Orlando

I now exactly what you are thinking. Spokesmayne in a museum? Roaming gardens and relaxing by fountains? What is happening…..

Yes, folks, there is much to experience here in Downtown Orlando besides the nightlife and market places, shops and Lake Eola offerings. During this weekend I was given the opportunity through Visit Orlando to get “culture-ized” and I will tell you I thoroughly enjoyed it! Of course, this IS more of Alessa’s jam and she had a blast!! That being said, let me tell you a little bit of the highlights we discovered at the places that we visited.

Harry P. Leu Gardens

Our first stop was the Harry P. Leu Gardens also known as Leu Gardens. Here you can explore an amazing 50-acre botanical oasis minutes from Downtown Orlando. Each garden is designed specifically to further their mission: inspire visitors to appreciate and understand plants. The garden and historical home were donated to the City of Orlando in 1961 by Mr. Harry P. Leu and his wife, Mary Jane. I think this is very awesome as their love for beauty and flowers is very evident here and knowing that they donated this so that it could be enjoyed for years beyond really hit me and I feel made me appreciate it more.

Over the holiday season, they will be featuring some events as well. Dazzling Nights runs November 19 through January 9th and will feature lights, music, and interactive elements to complete the transformation of the 50-acre, Harry P. Leu Gardens into a stunning holiday wonderland. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Then December 1st through the 31st they will have Holiday Blooms at Leu.  Hundreds of colorful and unique poinsettias along with beautiful, seasonal flowers and foliage will create a wonderful, magical garden for the holiday season.  This is the largest display of holiday plants in the Gardens’ history!  Stroll the 50-acres beautiful vignettes, container gardens and grounds to put you in the yuletide spirit included with daytime garden admission. See the link below for more information.

Orlando Museum of Art

I cannot tell you how many times I have driven past this building. It is beautiful on the outside but I was just blown away with the inside. Now again, I am not an “art” guy but I can enjoy the artists passion for creating things. The paintings that they are featuring in their exhibition right now are truly amazing and the pieces that they have on display are not only beautiful but unique, giving the phrase “one of a kind” definite meaning.

Walking through, you feel like you are going back in time.. feeling what the artist was going through in their life. Ranging from American Art, African Art to Modern Art, there is something here that will catch the eye of everyone. You could truly spend hours here and I would definitely recommend it.

I will speak more of the museum as their was a lot to see and there are some special things coming up. Be sure and check out the article later this week.

All in all, Downtown Orlando has so much to offer. Whether you come to see the sights and have fun on the water at Lake Eola or browse the shops and restaurants, you could spend the day and still not see everything. Honestly, we will be coming here more often, as it is a great place to relax, have fun, see different things and experience different adventures.
