Should I be happy or sad? Today, I have to tell you, was an emotional won.
First, Walt Disney World announced that more entertainment is returning. My heart leapt for joy as it was revealed that beginning August 1st, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will again light up the night sky with the return of “Wonderful World of Animation.” This cinematic nighttime experience leverages projection mapping technology to transform the park’s iconic Chinese Theater on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation. We knew that this was going to be coming back soon, with the return of Happily Ever After (oh my, I’m tearing up) and Epcot Forever (there we go again) returning last month.
On August 15, a tale as old as time will return to Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard with “Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage.” One of my favorite shows anywhere on property tells the story of Belle and Beast and will once again come to life in this lush stage performance, with colorful costumes, gorgeous scenery and the songs you know and love.
We will also soon be able to visit those monsters of comedy in Monstropolis and chat with a certain sea turtle at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Mike Wazowski will begin welcoming humans to the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor at Magic Kingdom Park on August 8. And beginning August 21, you can get your most pressing questions answered during Turtle Talk with Crush at EPCOT. Duuuude!
It is so exciting and I know that many of us are overjoyed with these entertainment features returning and being able to see and sing with our favorite characters again as well as knowing that more cast members are returning to the jobs that they love most.
THEN IT HAPPENED…….
The news that we could not believe our eyes were seeing. Could it be? Is it true? I read it over and over. The joy I had felt earlier, waining away into disbelief and sadness.
With it recently announced that all-new nighttime spectaculars “Disney Enchantment” and “Harmonious” would be debuting October 1st as part of The World’s Most Magical Celebration, we all questioned the fact that Happily Ever After would return after the Magical Celebration. But, we were NOT prepared for the ultimate reality.
That means this summer is also your last chance to come out and catch the current fireworks shows before they sparkle into Disney history. “EPCOT Forever” will conclude its limited-time run on September 28th, and you have until September 29th to take in the spectacle of “Happily Ever After” at Magic Kingdom Park.
Disney….say it ain’t so! Yes, I realize that we all cried and could not get out of bed for a week when it was announced that “Wishes” was leaving (I know, I was one of those people) BUT we did get over and embraced Happily Ever After, even enjoying it more than the previous nighttime spectacular. BUT…it’s Happily Ever After!!!
This bombshell news I feel was timed perfectly, embedded in joyfulness to ease the blow. Yes, we loved Illuminations, we are excited to see EPCOT Forever come back (even in its condensed form) but we are more excited to see Harmonious come to life. BUT…Happily Ever After GONE!! Sorry, it will take some time. We will be seeing it several more times before the 1st of October so don’t worry Mayne Mafia.
However, in the words of our friend Michael Does Disney….”Disney, it better be good!”
