Where Were You On October 1, 1971? So Many Ideas, Inspirations, Changes and Advances.

Many may know exactly where they were on this date. Some may have even been there. Me? Well, I was not even thought of yet but still, I love taking in all of the stories, pictures, inspiring messages of determination, creativity and persistence that brought us to this moment. Yes, I know where I will be tomorrow, October 1, 2021. Standing on Main Street U.S.A. and just imagining what it may have been like 50 years ago on this day and looking forward to what the future holds.

When Walt Disney decided to build Walt Disney Word Resort, he did not just settle for another park like Disneyland. He wanted it to be grander, more expansive, more inviting, well, MORE. He built Magic Kingdom with a castle that stands as the pinnacle of ‘magic’ and large enough that could be seen from places outside of the kingdom, and yet, is the focal point that we all stand in awe of when we first lay eyes on it down Main Street U.S.A. Cinderella Castle is the backdrop for firework spectaculars, projection extravangas, one of the most popular television shows, even while wearing a mask during the craziest times of the decade, and now, for The Most Magical Celebration on Earth!

I have seen a lot of changes myself in just the relatively few years I have been coming to and living by Walt Disney World Resort. I have learned to appreciate the creativity and design, the process that it takes to create something so magical and innovative, and how even the best laid plans can not work out how you wanted it to. Working for the Most Magical Mouse as both a cast member and now bringing the newest openings, happenings and merchandise to an audience that shares that passion, has been a true blessing and gift. As a creator, I look to Walt Disney, the incredible Imagineers and Cast members who all had a vision and with determination and a little bit of pixie dust, create magic for so many thousands of people all over the world.

I feel that of all the lands at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, tomorrowland has gone through the most “re-imagining.” Of course, we only keep moving forward and technology itself is now hard to even keep up with. Walt Disney World was the first with many things, sharing it with wide audiences. Attractions like America The Beautiful with 360 Theatre is no longer as well as If You Had Wings, but we know that there will always be changes in not only the exterior of certain lands but new and innovative attractions inside them.

The transformation of EPCOT is Walt Disney World Resort’s newest undertaking. From replacing large show buildings, re-imagining others into more interactive “centers” for play, discovery and imagination to new places in World Showcase like France, welcoming Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure debuting October 1st as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
