Disney Disneyland

WE WERE THE FIRST TO STEP INTO THE LAND OF BATUU!!!

May 31, 2019 Opening Day of Star Wars Galaxy Edge at Disneyland

We were beyond words when it came to being the first visitors to step foot into Star Wars Galaxy Edge the Land of Batuu. Excitement was “out of this world” of being able to experience this new land at Disneyland in California growing more and more as opening day approached. Then, on top of all that, waiting in this massive sea of people who had begun to line up for their reservation on that first day was something that is hard to describe. You could just feel the energy that was amongst the crowd and the overal anticipation and of course the nerves of whether you would be able to see this incredible creation of Disney imagineering “through the lens of this livestreamer” had my head spinning. Then it was time! The cast members who were the “residents’ of Batuu were ready for us. We started counting down 10, 9, 8, 7, oh my goodness, 6, 5, 4, it’s happening, it’s really happening, 3, 2, 1. We started moving forward and the cheering was almost deafening. Cast members were high-fiving us as we entered the land and the massive scale of this new and beautiful landscape was overwhelming.

With only four hours to spend here on our first reservation day, we headed straight for the Milliniuim Falcon and it did not disappoint. All we can say is that even though we were not the best of crew, it was amazing! Of course, we had to stop for that historical first day photo!

The details in Galaxy Edge will take years to uncover and even with having three reservation blocks, we barely touched the surface. We did get to grab a drink in Oga’s Cantina, build a droid and even take him to see some of his relatives.

We had a great time in Oga’s Cantina and fortunately we only had to wait about 30 minutes to get in. It was very crowded but we nestled up to the bar and order some of the most popular drinks in this alien establishment.

Next, we had to go check out the Droid factory and this was a marvel in itself. With droid parts hanging from a line above your head and a conveyor belt, moving accessories and colorful gizmos by, the creator and builder in you just comes out. We built our little BB8 droid and they gave us a cool box to keep him safe and sound. We named him Sketchy and he is quite the character.

All we can say, it that Disney again has outdone themselves when it comes to Star Wars Galaxy Edge. We are looking forward to the land opening in just a few short months on August 29, 2019 here in our own backyard at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. We are sure that the excitement will be just as great then.
