Walt Disney World Resort to Serve as Official Host of 2022 Special Olympics USA Games

On Thursday, Walt Disney World Resort announced it will serve as the official host of the 2022 Special Olympic USA Games, which will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. These games will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida.  An event of this scale happens because of the thousands of dedicated volunteers who are passionate supporters and super fans, which is why Disney is also proud to be the Presenting Partner of the 2022 USA Games Volunteer Program.

Holding the event at Walt Disney World Resort continues the long standing relationship the company has with Special Olympics, which also includes additional sponsorship and in-kind support for the USA Games, as well as employee volunteers.

For the first time in the Games’ history, athletes were invited to create the logo for the 2022 USA Games.  Nine athletes contributed to the design, including four from the state of Florida. The new logo was unveiled as part of a ceremony held on Thursday.

Those nine athletes were in attendance for the reveal event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Those athletes include:

Aarushi Pratap (Fashion Design, Tampa, Fla.)

Andrew Weatherly (Abstract Painting, Closter, N.J.)

Caroline Shin (Web Design, Tallahassee, Fla.)

Coby Fineran (Drawing, Manning, Iowa)

Haley Waggoner (Cake Decorating, Lincoln, Neb.)

Lee Savage (Drawing, Lake Worth, Fla.)

Mariah Gilbert (Drawing, Spokane, Wash.)

Marta Páramo (Painting, Miami, Fla.)

Patrice Jetter (Graphic Design, Hamilton, N.J.)

Academy Award-winning director Rayka Zehtabchi directed a mini documentary that was filmed during the Unified Logo Workshop, which debuted during the reveal event.

  • The Organizing Committee also announced Jersey Mike’s Subs as Presenting Partner for the games with Orlando Health and Orange County have committed as Platinum Partners as well.
