One of the Christmas traditions around Walt Disney World that we all look forward to, is the Candlelight Processional at Epcot every year. Choirs from around the country have the excitement and privilege of performing behind the reading of the story of the Christ child’s birth by a popular celebrity. Candlelight Procession is one of the oldest traditions, from its roots in 1955 when the Dickens Carolers performed with the Disneyland band on the train station steps. In 1960, Dennis Morgan was the first celebrity guest to read the Christmas story during the Candlelight Processional at Disneyland and when Walt Disney World opened, continued there with the tradition standing today, having moved to Epcot in 1993 from in front of Cinderella Castle.
I have my favorites, from Whoopie Goldberg, Jodi Benson and Lin Manuel Miranda, each bringing their own personality and gifts to this beautiful performance at the America Gardens Theater in Epcot each year.
But this year, of course, is different and there is no harmonious and resonating song drifting through the park. However, thanks to Disney Parks, we get to have a little reminder of this popular and missed staple, with one of the most notable and favorite narrators, Neil Patrick Harris. We hope that this brings you some joy going into the holiday season and thank you to Disney Parks for sharing this joyous gift.
