There are many places at Disney Springs that offer great food, unique atmosphere and good service. I know, I have been to many of them over the years. However, last Thursday, during my staycation at the Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista, we got to take the walk over to Disney Springs and experience a place that I have not previously been to. I am really not sure why I have eaten at Wine Bar George, maybe because I am really not a wine guy. But, I can tell you this, even if you don’t care for wine, this place is off the hook.
I had the privilege and honor of having dinner and drinks tonight with an amazing guy, George McNeilly. George is the man behind McNeilly Communications, a public relations and communication company that not only represents the Wyndham hotels but also areas of Disney Springs. George is the founder and managing partner of McNeilly Communications as well as a longtime Disney and ESPN executive and former NBC and CBS senior correspondent. His resume is well decorated, impressive and incredibly long. But much more than what he has accomplished in life, is who he is. A true gentleman, professional and lover of all things Disney and Disney Springs. He is an incredible wealth of knowledge and we were honored to spend some time with him and hear some amazing stories of the Disney parks, the area Disney Springs and other life stories that, I know for me, were truly inspiring.
The Food, Drinks and Service Were Spectacular
On top of the quality conversation, George introduced us to Alfredo, our server, who was not only super attentive but glowing behind his mask with a smile that I would have loved to have seen and eyes that sparkled every time he described one of the items he brought to us. We started the meal with a toast, poured from Hooten Young Whiskey. It was smooth and delicious and a great way to start this meal. On the table was a beautifully put together charcuterie board known as the “Big Board”. Now, for those of you who know me, I am not a fancy guy. But, I do like meat and cheese so this was right in my wheelhouse. Even though I may not have really caught on to what all the meats and cheeses names were, I surely enjoyed eating them. It was delicious and we both did a bang up job of cleaning off that board.
Next, Alfredo brought us these beautiful glasses of frozen wine, yes, they are NOT slushies, they are frozen wine! He placed before us four different flavors, raspberry, strawberry, mango and lime, and they were amazing, especially coming from a guy that is not a real wine drinker. They were fresh and flavorful and I would absolutely get one again on my next visit. It was the perfect drink to go along with the meal.
Following that, off camera, Alfredo brought us some house made meatballs that were awesome. Now, I can get down on some meatballs and these were the best that I have ever had (sorry, Mom). All throughout the meal, Alfredo was sure that everything was perfect, we had plenty of napkins and kept tapping off our water glasses from this very fancy water bottle…umm decanter, like thing. All I can say is that I felt as if I was super special and I know that they will treat you the same when you come to visit Wine Bar George.
About Wine Bar George
The restaurant opened at Disney Springs in May of 2018 and is one of the most popular places at Disney Springs. Here is a little background that was shared with us on the stream by George (our host) as well as some info from their website.
George Miliotes is no stranger to Walt Disney World Resort. He was part of the opening team of California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and managed the restaurant from 1995 to 2002. While there, he created an award-winning wine list—one of the first in the country to offer 100 wines by the glass and is widely regarded as one of the leading wine experts in the restaurant industry,
In March 2007, Miliotes became a Master Sommelier ~meaning he is a wine expert for those like myself that needed explanation~and continues to study and explore wine today—traveling to the world’s top wine-growing regions from France to South Africa. On these trips, he identifies interesting wines, builds relationships with the vintners and comes home with new discoveries to share with restaurant-goers and wine enthusiasts alike. He is also known for greeting his guests and spending time chatting with them when he is home at the restaurant.
An End To a Great Night
We finished the night off and George and I walked out with very full bellies and smiles on our faces. I was super happy to be able to share this experience with all of you and appreciated all the questions that you had as well as input on your trips to Disney Springs and Wine Bar George. As I said goodnight to George and thanked him for a great time and being awesome company, I thought about how blessed I am to live in such an amazing place and be able to come to places like Disney Springs and share a meal with people like George McNeilly. Much of this is owed to you, the Mayne Mafia, who is always supportive and inspires and motivates me to explore new things and take you to places that we have never been. Listening to George tonight, I was reminded that life hands you opportunities but it is up to each of us to take that opportunity and create our dream, through hard work and always pushing the boundaries of what we think is possible.
As Walt Disney once said; “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
