Everyone knows that when you are in Orlando and looking for a relaxing, fun, out of the ordinary shopping and dining experience, it is Disney Springs. As an OG of this incredible,, sprawling and one of a kind place, I still loving refer to it as Downtown Disney. But, it has grown leaps and bounds since then and no matter how many times I come here, there is always something new and fun to see, experience and eat.
Recently I spent some quality time at Disney Springs, checking out the shops and newly “themed” restaurants. I was extremely grateful to have visited some of them with my good friend George McNeilly, long time Disney publicist who now works for Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs, gave us some insightful background on places like Crystal Arts by Arribas Brothers, Chicken Guy (still one of my favorite places to eat) and The Art Corner, as well as Disney Springs and the area itself, which we covered on stream. Even though these have been at Disney Springs for a long time, it was still a new experience for me and being able to really take the time to enjoy them is what Disney Springs is all about. It is truly a place that you could spend the day, checking out shops, interactive experiences, even fly up over the Springs in a hot air balloon. At night, Disney Springs lights up, literally, more so even now with the beautiful Christmas decorations and gigantic Christmas tree.
If you have never seen all of Disney Springs, grabbing the map for the Christmas Tree Stroll is a great way to make sure you don’t miss any area. Not only will you have fun seeing these themed and amazingly decorated Christmas trees, but you will be able to possibly find new destinations that you never knew you missed before. Whether you do the stroll in the daytime or in the evening, it is a fun way to experience Disney Springs.
During our visit today, we got to stop by Crystal Arts again, in awe of the craftsmanship and beauty that drew the attention of Walt Disney back in the day. From an incredible replica made of glass of Cinderella Castle (yes, they have a glass slipper as well), to jewelry and custom pieces that they can create right in front of your eyes.
We also got to spend some time at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, a popular and hoppin’ place at Disney Springs all year long, but a Christmas time they “deck the halls” and really decorate to the max and transforming into ‘Jock Lindsey’s Holiday Bar.’ The food is incredible here and they are known for their unique drinks and appetizers, especially the late night bites. They have unique places to sit and an awesome covered, outdoor patio overlooking the water.
- Today we tried a few different holiday items and they were all very good. The C9 Light deviled eggs were colored like Christmas bulbs in red and green, filled with yummy, eggy goodness and topped with shrimp and cavair. Well, my lovely partner really liked them but this guy, was happy with the original deviled egg minus the seafood to be honest. The drummer boy braised lamb was delicious (didn’t know I liked lamb) super crunchy and full of flavor. They also have many fun, Christmas themed sweet treats like Adult Milk and Cookies that our friends really enjoyed. We also tried the Berry Merry Margarita, the Jock’s Holiday Nog and the Mistletoe Mule, which are all super festive looking and delicious.
After spending some time walking around Disney Springs, popping in and out of some of the great shops like Sephora (I was a guest), World of Disney, Coca Cola and many, many more, incredibly we had worked up an appetite.
We were hosted at Planet Hollywood and I could not have been happier. If you have read my previous article, this place is not only incredible for the food that they serve but also for the atmosphere around the place. Tonight, we had some different offerings than I had on my last trip here and I was very happy to try these out. We started out with High Roller Sampler (which looks like a giant ferris wheel) and has “cages” of World Famous Chicken Crunch, Texas Tostados, Buffalo Wings, Five Cheese Dip & Fried Jumbo Shrimp. This is absolutely something that is shareable among friends and let’s you try even more of the great food items here at Planet Hollywood. For my entre I had the Mac and Cheese Burger which was amazing. We also had a Planet Bowl, which is an adult libation that well, is as big as a bowl! Served in a souvenir glass, Alessa had the Haley’s Comet; Cruzan aged light rum, SKYY vodka, Beefeater gin, Jose Cuervo Especial Gold tequila, DeKuyper blue curaçao, fresh lemon & lime juices & Sprite. I had the Solar Eclipse, a sunny concoction of Jose Cuervo Especial Gold tequila, Cointreau & citrus juices topped with Grand Marnier. Both were great and you may need a to go glass for this one.
It was a great day at Disney Springs and I cannot recommend coming here enough. Whether you are just stopping by to grab something at one of the many stores, looking to spend the day or making date night dinner reservations for the evening, there is much to see and do. It is a great place to come with the family and the nightlife here makes it an entertaining and romantic evening for you and a special someone. I hope that you come out and make time to visit when you are visiting Orlando or if you are local, come out and rediscover what all is here.
